During World War II, countless challenges made transportation difficult, expensive, and dangerous. The need for fast, efficient, and quiet ways to move people despite fuel shortages, damaged roads, and constant fighting led many soldiers and civilians to use bicycles as transportation. Soldiers rode bicycles in some areas, refugees used bicycles to transport their families and belongings to safety, and many civilians had no other options available.
